Welcome

For anyone with money invested in a portfolio, it’s been a difficult time. Investing is a long-term process that requires patience and the ability to stay calm when conditions become challenging. Yet investors’ nerves have been tested over the past few months, as stock markets have swung sharply and suddenly in both directions.

Invest in a richer life,
however you define it.

WE BELIEVE THAT SOCIETIES AND ECONOMIES CAN BUILD BACK BETTER AND WE CAN CREATE A MORE SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

There’s a lot we still don’t know about the virus and what’s going to happen over the weeks and months ahead. We will be closely monitoring the situation but we are cautiously optimistic. In particular, we believe the engagement with green growth and sustainable development offers a credible path for economies to repair and establish stable long term growth.

We are committed to a sustainable approach. For the first time, we have moved from print to a digital Counterpoint. I hope you enjoy the new format and reading our latest views on the issues shaping financial markets this year and beyond.

Yours sincerely,

Bill Street

Recent history reminds us that the unexpected happens frequently and 2020 will inevitably go down as one of the most surprising years in our lifetimes. When we published Counterpoint 2020 in January, the news about a new type of virus in a Chinese city many of us had never heard of before was just breaking. Fast forward six months and the world is a profoundly different place.

WELCOME TO MY HOME

We’re encouraged by signs that the global economy is moving from despair to repair. China has got back to work, conditions in the US appear to be stabilising and Europe is beginning to turn the corner as factories, schools, shops and restaurants reopen. Central banks and governments are supporting the recovery with huge stimulus measures.

When the going gets tough, it’s important to have a talented team who have experience of investing through the good times and the bad. As part of our ongoing commitment to providing a first-class investment management service, we’ve strengthened our team by hiring seasoned professionals with expertise in economic analysis, asset allocation, sustainability and investment selection.
